Obituary

Regina Lerner (nee Kolkey) passed away on June 1st at her residence in Chicago at the age of 89. She is survived by four children and seven grandchildren: Myla (Larry Kramer) of New York, New York [Matthew, Erika]; Ivy (Dr. Mark Coleman) of Chicago, Illinois [Elise, Jeffrey]; Kendra (Ira Blumberg) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina [Zack]; and David of Wilmette, Illinois [Helen, Tobias], and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dr. George Lerner, in 2012. The family wishes to express its deep gratitude to her dedicated caregiver of the past five years, Sarah Atay. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Regina graduated from Sullivan High School, and received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin. A long-time resident of Akron, Ohio, she was active in such organizations as The Ohio Ballet, The Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, The Jewish Federation of Akron, and Beth El Congregation. Funeral services will be graveside at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 West Rand Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois on Sunday June 4th at 12:30pm. Rabbi Debra Newman Kamin will preside. Shiva will be at the home of David Lerner, 2431 Birchwood Lane, Wilmette, Illinois, at the following dates and times: Sunday June 4th, following internment until 4:00pm, and from 6:00pm until 9:00pm; and on Monday June 5th, from 6:00pm until 9:00pm. Minyan will be held at 8:00pm both evenings. Kindly adhere to the parking restrictions on Birchwood Lane, from the bottom of the cul-de-sac up to the Lerner residence on the south side of the street.
